Abstract

Papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) contain papain and may improve feed utilization in milkfish (Chanos chanos). This study evaluated papaya leaf supplementation in commercial feed and identified the best inclusion level for growth. The experiment was conducted during September-October 2025 at the Marine and Fisheries Office fishpond in Mbay, Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. A completely randomized design comprised four supplementation levels (0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%), each with three replicates, totaling 12 experimental units. Growth and feed conversion data were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan’s test. Supplementation significantly affected absolute weight gain, specific growth rate, and feed conversion ratio (p < 0.05). The 10% treatment produced the highest weight gain (11.87 g) and specific growth rate (1.15%/day), with the lowest feed conversion ratio (1.36). Survival reached 100% in all treatments. Growth at 15% was lower than at 10%. Thus, 10% supplementation provided the best growth and feed utilization among the tested levels under the experimental conditions.
