Abstract

Advances in digital technology have had a significant impact on the lives of elementary school students, particularly regarding the use of electronic devices. Children often use these devices for learning, entertainment, watching videos, and accessing social media. Proper use of these devices can have positive effects, such as improving students’ access to information, fostering creativity, and boosting their enthusiasm for learning. However, if used excessively, electronic devices can lead to negative effects such as dependency, declining academic performance, psychological issues, poor social interaction skills, and a reduction in children’s physical activity. This study aims to examine the impact of electronic device use on elementary school students and analyze the role of guidance and counseling services in addressing these issues. In this study, the method employed was a literature review utilizing various sources from scientific journals and relevant books regarding the use of electronic devices and guidance and counseling services in elementary schools. The findings indicate that guidance and counseling services play a crucial role in helping students manage their use of electronic devices through preventive, curative, and developmental approaches. Guidance and counseling teachers can offer group guidance, individual counseling, and classroom-based services, as well as utilize digital technology in the delivery of counseling services. Furthermore, collaboration between schools and parents is crucial in monitoring children’s use of electronic devices. Therefore, digital-based guidance and counseling services can serve as an effective solution in helping students use electronic devices in a healthy, wise, and responsible manner.
